Talks by Otto Kroeger, Founding Partner

What is Typology and Why Do We Need It?
Audience: No or little type knowledge needed
Time: 2-4 hours

Typologies are an effort to classify seemingly random behaviors. Some are broad like “Type A & Type B.” Some are clinical such as “manic or paranoid.” The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) assessment attempts to classify according to C.G. Jung’s psychological theories of Perception and Judgment. The beauty of Jung’s model and the MBTI instrument is that it reflects inborn preferences and does not deal with skills, abilities, intelligence or pathologies. In this session, Otto introduces the fundamentals of psychological type, and shows its application to conflict, goal setting, career choices, selling/buying, ethics, and child rearing.

What’s a Nice Type Like You Doing In a Place Like This?
Audience: Moderate type knowledge needed
Time: 2-4 hours

This empowering presentation emphasizes the importance of being who you are, wherever you are. Each of the sixteen types has a unique contribution - understanding your gifts, and being willing or feel safe to share them is the key to success. At home or on the job, appreciating differences and individual gifts can be the best way to promote a healthy environment for yourself, and in turn, for others. In this presentation, Otto talks about how type preferences play out in both career choice and satisfaction, and offers insights for how the different types both view and achieve success.

Typewatching: What to Look for and Who Cares?
Audience: Moderate type knowledge needed
(know the terms and their own preferences)
Time: 3-6 hours

Whether people tell you their four letter type or not, their behavior is letting you know their type preferences. This fun half or whole-day workshop uses extensive video clips and group discussion to present and test-out a system of observing behavior that will enable you to make responsible hypotheses of someone’s type - even if you don't know their MBTI preferences. Fun and different, this workshop both refreshes the audience's type knowledge, and provides useful and practical tools and ideas. This workshop is open to all type enthusiasts.

Using Type Dynamics as a Tool
Audience: Type knowledge and comfort with type theory needed
Time: 2-4 hours

Millions of people take the MBTI assessment each year, but too few people engage with the true power of psychological type by delving into the richness of type dynamics. Understanding and working with the power of the dominant and auxiliary functions and engaging with the unique but necessary challenges of the inferior function is the focus of this half-day workshop. Ideal for coaches, leaders and trainers—but appropriate for anyone who knows his or her type preferences and would like to drill deeper into their meaning and applicability, this workshop is interactive, insightful and fun.

Type and Project Management
Audience: Little or moderate type knowledge needed
Time: 2-4 hours

Many with interest in psychological type are also either project managers or work with these professionals. This workshop explores the influence of type on project management styles and practices. The talk first introduces the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), a popular framework guiding the work of many project managers. Next, we review common challenges that project managers experience in translating that knowledge into action - evidenced by the common problems that lead to project failures. We close by exploring how psychological type can serve as a useful tool for those wishing to work with project teams in addressing these challenges and problems.

The Human Dynamics of Information Technology (IT) Teams
Audience: No type knowledge needed
Time: 2-4 hours

Even with tremendous advances in information technology, software and system development efforts continue to struggle in the face of people-related concerns. Faster development cycles, diverse user communities, and more cross-functional requirements heighten the need to focus on the human dynamics of the technology process - both internal to IT teams, and with user groups. Drawing from our extensive research with IT teams, and insights from our own consulting projects, this session describes the unique personality and team dynamics of IT work groups, and introduces strategic approaches for leveraging the power of these dynamics.
